Birthday. Fun.

What blog about parenthood would be complete without a post that has absolutely nothing to do with kids? I mean seriously. You're crazy if you think I don't ship those brats off every chance I get so often.
It was my 22nd birthday (alright, no one in the real world believed it either- shut up I'm old) and I was ready to have a good time.
We got up Saturday morning loaded up the van (that's right we were ridin' dirty. or something) and took off to the big city. Kansas City.
After a little bit of pre partying (we wanted to pace ourselves- some of us are no longer 21) and a trip to the casino (I did pretty well at blackjack. Just saying. Only lost $5), we got dressed up and headed out to the Power and Light District.
We drank some really expensive juice and listened to live music. I won dominated the lyric off even though they refused to play my requests. My strategy was to request songs that they didn't see every night. That way the band would think I was cool. Maybe invite me to be a backup singer or something. Obviously, I let my imagination run wild sometimes and my plan backfired. Double fail.
We also did some dancing. I'm really good at it. There were two guys that got up and did Backstreet Boys. Or maybe it was N Sync. I really don't know. I couldn't tell if these guys were serious or making a big joke. Either way, they were tools. I even took a picture to make my point but then people thought I was being all into them. Gross. Everyone knows I prefer my music crushes to be skinny and slightly dorky.
Just saying.
Anyways. I love our friends:)

Wanna be a crawler

One day while Finley and I were just hanging out, like we like to do, he said to me, "Mommy, I want to learn how to crawl"
So. He tried it out.
And he rocked.
And he got some help from Big Bro My Guy.
And I baby proofed.
And he rested.

One day he will get it. One day. Sooner than what I am ready for, I'm sure.

Happy Birthday Dear Kaden

Oh. Man. Am I in trouble. Apparently, with summer I have become a busy little bee. Not quite sure what I am doing now that I wasn't doing before, but, I can tell ya that I haven't had time to blog. Okay. That is a slight exaggeration. I did have time. The other night. When the boys were being naughty (shocking- I know). But. As it turns out, I have nothing nice to say about my darling children when they are acting less than darling. So I decided to say nothing at all. Until now. Now, when I am officially behind. We've had a couple birthdays and a Father's Day and some parties. I figure we can talk about that. And by "that" I really mean Kaden's birthday.
Guess how old he is. Ask him over the phone and he will show you his four fingers. "This many." he says.
We had his party on a rainy little Saturday. They were excited for the party to start. We were still an hour out. They waited. And watched.
And waited on the couch. Bored one moment. Excited the next.
And it rained. And rained. And we had to come up with plan b for the outside barbecue party originally planed. We did what most people who don't want to actually have guests barbecues in their house would do. We moved it to the garage. It was classy.
Brian's newest obsession really came in handy. And tasty. Barbecued pizza. With homemade dough. Awesome.
Once the rain stopped, we got out the BIG present. and wrapped it in a blanket. Classy. Again. They were excited. I love how Kaden automatically got in the drivers seat and Myles in sync with him jumped into the passengers side. They drove for a half a second before they both got scared and wanted out. Perfect. One day they will love it. I'm sure.
Kaden spent a good 3 days prior to his party singing "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Kaden, happy birthday to you". So you can imagine how excited he was when it was time for the real deal. So excited, in fact, that he couldn't wait for the song to end to blow out the candles.
His baseball stick. It's the technical term.

Running shoes- to go on runs with daddy. Not sure who is more excited Kaden or Daddy.

Presents. There isn't much more to say. Presents = best part of a party. Although. The highlight this year may have been when a group of people tried to shop at our garage sale. Classy.

Summer!

Hello there. It's been 10 days since my last post and I feel all out of sorts. Almost like I don't know what to say. This is the longest gap in between posts I've ever had, and for my 9 official followers, well, I feel like I have let you down. I'm not going to mention the fact that I've only had 4 page views since my last post and if you do the math, I'm not terribly impressed. But. I'm not going to mention that. So let's get on with it. Shall we?

Our birds grew up and left the nest. We are literally empty nesters. I figure this is just another sign that spring is about over and summer is here. This can mean one of two things:
 1. Storm season- which reminds me of an awesome joke that would have been more appropriately told last month, but, as they say, better late than never. Here goes. If April showers bring May flowers, then what do May flowers bring? .....

Pilgrims. :) get it?
2. Sprinklers. Sun. And hopefully a nice tan.
The boys are ready too. All they need is a nice tall cup of lemonade to really complete the scene.

They are lucky enough to get to spend all summer with Mrs. "Eeemmie" where they will be doing arts and crafts and frequenting the park. All. Summer. Long. We love you Amy!
Finley. I figure. Will spend a good chunk of his summer in overalls and bare feet.
And...
Getting stuck under furniture. He's a man on the move and hasn't even figured out crawling yet. I am. Doomed.

Overalls

I love babies. I love overalls. I love babies in overalls.

Today I came to a few realizations. And by "came to" I really mean that they were thrown into my face. Last night, I found a box of old clothes from the bigger boys. I pulled it out and started rummaging through it. What I found were clothes that Finley is just about ready to outgrow. Probably by tomorrow. Today I decided to dress Finley in one of these outfits while I still can and I realized:
1. My system for organizing and storing old clothes is flawed sucks.
2. Four years later, I have the EXACT same taste in clothes as I did the day Kaden was born.
3. I really should stop buying new outfits when I have the same old outfit hanging out in some nook or cranny in my house.
Hmm... Which one should I wear today?
So. Let's recap. We've got 6 pairs of overalls sizes 3-6months-18-24months. 3 denim. 3 stripes. I know for a fact that I have donated at least 2 other pairs of overalls and that in some storage space I have another pair size 2T. That's 9 pairs. At least.

It's a good thing they look so good in 'em.
BTW this is the first time Finley sat up all by himself. Such a big boy!
