A House Divided

It all started with an innocent little statement, "Mom, I want to get a Husker shirt." You see, in this family, we're Hawkeye fans. Well. Brian was a Hawkeye and therefore the rest of us are fans by default. I should also mention that in the midwest, college football is a big. freaking. deal. Seriously though. It's like Super Bowl Sunday every Saturday in the fall. It shouldn't have been a huge shock (although it sort of was) when Kaden came home from kindergarten requesting a Husker shirt, because I'm pretty sure in Nebraska the Pledge of Allegiance goes something like this, "I pledge allegiance to the flag...... with liberty and justice for all. Go Huskers!" After much debating, and failed attempts at talking him into a Hawkeye shirt, Kaden got to get his Husker shirt. He had to have it for Friday, because EVERYONE was going to be wearing them. Everyone. With Kaden in Husker gear and Myles and Finley sporting Hawkeyes, our house was officially divided. It didn't stop us from enjoying the weekend however.
Friday after school we went straight to the park.
They played.
And ate snacks.
And played some more
When it was finally time to go, they didn't want to leave. "But. I don't waaaaannnnnnaaaaaaa leeeeaaaavvvvvvveeeeeee."
"It's time to go, we have to eat dinner."
"Just let us play!"
"No, Dad's going to be home soon, let's go!"
"Well.... You... You're.... You're fired!"
He got it from The Incredibles. It's funny what they pick up. There are moments I think I'd be happy to be fired, but for now I'm enjoying what I do. Plus he gave me my job back later that evening so we were all squared away.
Saturday, Kaden in Huskers again, we headed out for Platte River State Park. On the way Brian asked, "How's the battery life in your camera?"
"It's great I haven't had to charge it for weeks!"
Once we arrived, I tried to get the boys together for a picture. Then my camera battery died. Oh the irony.
I did get a few pictures on my phone. Before it died too.
By the way. Kaden was the only person I saw wearing a Husker shirt at school on Friday. But. He was happy. That's all that matters.

*note: no Husker fans were intentionally offended in the making of this blog.
