Road trip!
We packed up the van with 3 suitcases, 2 potties, a baby bathtub filled with crap, an ice chest, a grocery bag full of food, a carryon size suitcase with just toys, the double stroller, a baby carrying backpack, 3 boys, a dog and I'm sure some other crap I am forgetting to mention; and headed out to Phoenix. 25 minutes into the trip Myles was asleep, 1 hour 40 minutes in we got our first, "are we almost there?" 2 hours in Finley was ready for dinner which I tried unsuccessfully to feed him from the front. 2 hours 15 minutes in we pulled over to rearrange, food went up front the second bucket seat got unfolded and mom went to the back, poor Sophie got her space reduced significantly:(. We made it to our scheduled breakfast stop ahead of schedule (about 5am) luckily Denny's is open 24 hours. Breakfast was pretty uneventful until some regulars showed up but did not order their usuals and confused the cook who had to make the guy's pancakes 3 times because they kept sticking because of stupid (he used a different inappropriate word) Louie the "swing" shift cook. After breakie I took over the wheel to let hubby get some sleep. After a failed attempt of blasting music and cold air I had to relinquish control because I was too tired (I know, I know, I got more sleep than him.... But someone tell that to my eyelids!) I did, however, successfully navigate through the snow storm:). I got to drive one more time for about an hour into Flagstaff (my eyelids cooperated much better the second time around) I had fun watching the peaks come into view and had some very nostalgic moments upon arriving in Flag. Even though in my heart I wanted to stay a relive my NAU memories, we decided to keep pushing through to Phoenix. We had our first and only meltdown (and it wasn't even a full fledged one) about 25 minutes away from my parents house.... Which if you know my kids (or read my coffee table blog:)) you probably know what a miracle that is. We sang songs to combat the crankiness and arrived almost exactly 24 hours after leaving our house in Omaha.... Now we are off to bed to await the adventures that lie ahead!
