Kaden turns 6

Kaden's sixth birthday was last month. We slacked off on planning and never came up with any solid ideas. It wasn't until the day before his party that I actually got some ideas for a perfect theme with activities to fit the theme. By then it was too late. We had a party in the park with a bunch of random games and activities. It may not have been a Pinterest perfect party, but you know what? The kids had fun. And that's what matters. The best part was, it was low stress and not too expensive. The first activity was, Sidewalk chalk people. We outlined everyone and had them decorate their own person.
Next we did an obstacle course. The park we were at had tree stumps and logs that were perfect for this.
The kids loved it! They all went through at least twice. I had to bribe them away to do the next activity.
Water balloon tag.
Really, this was less a game of tag and more a game of, "get me wet please!"
Our final activity was painting with shaving cream. I bought 3 cans of shaving cream for this activity and used less than one. We also used washable paint. I didn't need parents mad at me for staining clothes!
There of course was cake and presents
And cousins who help with baby sisters.
And baby friends who won't pose together for a picture.
The party was a success, if I do say so myself. The best part was, I didn't hear any kids say, "That would have been awesome, if only they had done a theme." I'd like to report that I learned my lesson and am sticking with the less is more strategy. But. I have a really great idea for Millie's party. Theme and all.

We celebrated on his actual birthday as well. And even if he said he didn't want to go, he had a GREAT time at the splash pad with friends Logan and Jamus. And wants to do nothing more than return for his sister's birthday.
He had been asking for a "bow tie" (translation- neck tie) for months. He got one for his birthday and couldn't wait to wear it. He even wanted to wear it to the splash pad. I convinced him to save it for dinner.
If you want to know how much he enjoyed his special day, look no further than the backseat of our car on the way to dinner.
I have a feeling that 6 is going to be his best year yet!
